NATURE SPIRITS: Approaching the borders of a supersensible world

A talk and performance by Susan Raven

10th December 7.30pm
"Sacred Space Series" at Steiner House, London

In the far distant past, our ancestors were highly perceptive of the subtle energies working within nature. They saw these energies as Nature Spirits, or Elemental Beings, with definite tasks and personality. The ancestors understood that the living cooperation of these Elementals constituted the etheric, or life body, of the Earth. Over time our vision of this subtle world, with its ?carriers of the forces?, has faded and we have become ever more focused on the outer world of the senses and on developing the material sciences.
However, this purely materialistic view of nature is finishing its curriculum of evolution. Once again, we need to see physical phenomena as the expression of spiritual deeds. We need to fructify the developed intellect, by opening our hearts and souls to what now seeks entry from the higher hierarchies. "Humanity must rediscover what lies behind external observation and intellectual interpretation...and gain insight into the spiritual foundation of nature, which external knowledge does not reach."
In this talk, Susan will present a view of the Nature Spirits and their work in the formative world behind physical form, based on the lectures given by Rudolf Steiner. She will include an account of her experiences with the elementals in her own locality, and most importantly, suggest ways in which we, as humans, can help the Nature Spirits at this point in our, and their, evolution.
Susan Raven has been a longtime student of Anthroposophy and has represented Rudolf Steiner Press and the Anthroposophical Society at the Mind, Body and Spirit Festival for 14 years. She is a singer/songwriter whose CDs have attracted a large internet fan base around the world and whose performances on the British music festival scene have moved and inspired many people. She has spent the last 11 years living in the remote hills of midWales, deepening her understanding of the elemental kingdom, slowly developing the faculty for perceiving this formative world, and honing her skills as a songwriter.
Susan will be performing a selection of her songs at the end of the talk. For previews of her music please go to  www.susanraven.com.
